- Defect Prevention: The focus is on minimizing errors by using proper testing, reviews, and quality assurance techniques before delivery.

Core Components of Quality Management
- Customer Satisfaction: Quality is based on customer satisfaction acquired through a product; it is the most important factor in determining whether the quality of the product has been achieved.
- Defining Quality Parameters: An organization must define quality parameters before they can be achieved. To satisfy a customer, one must follow a cycle of Define, Measure, Monitor, Control, and Improve.
- Management Leadership: Management must lead the organization through improvement efforts; it is the single strongest force in an organization to implement changes expected by a customer.
- Continuous Improvement: The cycle of continuous or continual improvement (Plan-Do-Check-Act or Define-Measure-Monitor-Control-Improve) must be utilized.
Equivalence Class Partitioning (ECP) Testing
- Identify Input Conditions: All possible input fields and conditions are analyzed to determine where equivalence classes can be applied.
- Define Valid Classes: Inputs expected to be accepted by the system are grouped into valid equivalence classes.
- Define Invalid Classes: Inputs that should be rejected or handled as errors are grouped into invalid equivalence classes.
- Consider Boundary Conditions: Special attention is given to edge values.
- Ensure Complete Coverage: All identified classes are covered with representative test cases to ensure thorough testing.
Boundary Value Analysis (BVA) Strategies
- Test at Extreme Ends: Always select values at the minimum and maximum limits of input ranges to detect boundary-related defects.
- Include Just Inside Values: Choose values slightly above the minimum and slightly below the maximum to verify correct handling within limits.
- Include Just Outside Values: Test values just below the minimum and just above the maximum to check system response to invalid inputs.
- Apply to All Inputs: Perform boundary value analysis for every input variable, not just a single field.
- Focus on Edge Cases: Give special attention to boundary conditions, as most errors are likely to occur at the edges.
Improved Equivalence Class Partitioning
- Combines Multiple Inputs: Improved ECP considers combinations of multiple input conditions instead of testing each input separately.
- Uses Robust Test Cases: It includes both valid and invalid equivalence classes together in a single test case to improve effectiveness.
- Reduces Number of Tests: By intelligently combining classes, it minimizes redundant test cases while maintaining good coverage.
- Focus on Interaction: It checks how different input classes interact with each other, revealing defects not found in basic ECP.
