Summer Camp Job Interview Examples
Interview 1: Camp Monitor Candidate
Good morning, take a seat, please.
Thank you.
I have carefully read your resume and I have seen you are a high school student.
Yes, I am currently taking the science programme and I also hold a certificate as a leisure and free time counselor.
That’s fine. Why are you interested in this job?
I was highly motivated to apply for this job because I really enjoy spending my time with children and taking care of them. It would be a pleasure for me to get this job as camp monitor.
What is your greatest strength?
I think my extroversion, my creativity, and my people skills.
Tell me a little bit about your previous working experience.
I have worked as a basketball trainer for 3 years.
If a child during the summer camp starts crying and tells you that he wants to go back to his parents, what would you do?
One of my main goals is to avoid anyone feeling bad or uncomfortable, so first of all I would try to ensure this situation could not happen. But if it did occur, I would speak with the child and find out what the problem is. Then I would give him a solution to help him change his negative mindset and I would do my best to help him feel comfortable and happy. If his final decision is that he wants to go back home because he has an important problem and I can’t do anything, I would call his parents and they would make a decision.
Interesting. That’s all. Thank you for getting in touch with us and for coming. Do you have any questions?
You’re welcome. Yes, I have one question: How do you let me know if I get the job or not?
We would notify you if you became a member of our team by mail or phone call. If you don’t receive anything in the next week, it unfortunately will mean that it has not been possible to give you this opportunity.
Thank you for your time. I really appreciate this opportunity. I hope we can keep in touch.
I hope so too, good luck and have a good day.
Bye.
Interview 2: Summer Camp Staff Applicant
Good morning, nice to meet you.
Good morning, it’s nice to meet you too.
First of all, I’m Paula and I will interview you today. I want you to tell me how did you hear about us. Did a friend recommend us, the internet, some advertisement?
Not really, I spent most of my summers here when I was a child.
That’s so interesting. Now I want to know some things about you. Tell me about yourself!
Well, I’m Martina, I’m 16 years old. I was born in Barcelona and I’m here in London studying high school… for the future.
What are your weaknesses and your qualities? Tell me about it.
I think that my weak points are that sometimes I’m slow in completing my tasks compared to others because I really want to get things right. I will double or sometimes triple-check… lines so I have a clearer idea of what I need to do.
And now could you tell me some of your qualities, please?
Of course, I have team building skills. I love working in groups and I’m such a social person… maybe because I have a lot of patience.
That sounds great, Martina, but why did you leave your last job?
Well, last summer I worked as a waitress in a restaurant… and working in this hotel making kids’ summers better would be a great one.
And last but not least, why do you think we should hire you?
As I told you earlier, I have a lot of great skills with kids. I’m a young person and I have a lot of energy to do anything.
Okay, thank you. We will call you in a few days.
