Student Voices: Education, Facilities, and Unexpected Finds
Student Views on Education and Books
Education is one of the most important human rights. First of all, there are many reasons why books should be free. Some people say that young people are responsible [for their books], but I think it should depend on the type of student. On the one hand, I believe it is a good idea because children who live in poor areas can go to school without paying anything. However, schools also have students who don’t really care about their future. For example, the responsible student will respect the materials because they are not theirs. Nevertheless, other students will do the opposite.
On the other hand, in my opinion, we should pay for the books ourselves, except for poor people. In that situation, charity could pay 90% of the cost. Furthermore, schools should offer students more freedom to choose the subjects they want to learn, allowing everyone to save money by buying only the books they need.
To sum up, as far as I’m concerned, the world should provide support for the education of children, because they are the future.
Evaluating School Facilities: Almadrava Secondary
The aim of this report is to evaluate the facilities for students at Almadrava Secondary School and to make some suggestions for improvements.
Facilities Available
The facilities at Almadrava include a canteen, a computer room, a gym, a library, a music room, etc. However, the majority of students use the canteen and the library the most. 60% of students buy their snacks during break time, while 40% bring their own snacks from home.
Positive Features
In general, students are happy with the facilities. The gym was particularly popular because it is large and has a lot of equipment for various sports.
Areas for Improvement
Even though students like the gym, 10% felt it wasn’t large enough. Among older students, 10% would like more instruments in the music room. About 40% said the canteen was too crowded and the food was too expensive relative to its quality. In addition, they felt the canteen should have more space. The remaining students said the library was too crowded as well. Furthermore, the number of books was insufficient. As far as the library chairs were concerned, students said they were uncomfortable.
Personal Anecdote: The Case of the Lost Jacket
A strange thing happened to me once. It was a rainy day when I missed the bus. Although it was raining, it was very hot, so I took off my jacket. Twenty minutes later, the bus arrived.
Once I arrived home, my mother asked me where my jacket was. Suddenly, I thought it might have been in my bag, but it wasn’t. I got nervous because it was my favorite jacket. A couple of minutes later, I thought it might have been in the classroom. So I went there. Initially, I looked everywhere, and then I realized it could have been at the bus station. But it wasn’t. The jacket had just disappeared, or it may have been stolen by someone. I was sad that I would never see my jacket again. Finally, I gave up and went home.
The next day, when I was on the bus, I looked at a friend who was sitting on a bench. And next to her was a gray thing. Thankfully, I ran to her and asked if the jacket was hers. She told me it wasn’t. Amazingly, yesterday I had seen the bench without anything, and today it had just appeared. The funny thing was that a lot of people walk past the bus station, and no one else had seen it.
