Short Horror Stories: The Signalman, Ligeia, Confession, Cabin 105
The Signalman
To begin with, at night, there was a signalman inside his room next to the railway when he began to hear a man who was above him on a path. The signalman was scared because he thought that the man was a ghost. So, they were speaking about why he was there. The signalman met with the other man the following night to explain because he thought that he was a ghost.
The next night, the man went where he saw the signalman. But when he arrived, the police were there. The police told him that the signalman had died because he was knocked down by a train. Surely, the signalman thought that next to him was a ghost, therefore, he went running, but he didn’t see well and he was knocked down by the train.
In my opinion, I think that the signalman was mad and he died because of his madness.
Ligeia
To begin with, the protagonist of this story is married to a woman called Ligeia. This woman is tall, slim, and beautiful. Moreover, she has white skin, black hair, black eyebrows, and black eyes. Then, Ligeia gets ill, and after she fights with her illness, she dies, so the protagonist is very sad and depressed.
The protagonist marries again, but now to a woman called Rowena. He continues being depressed because he can’t forget Ligeia. Rowena is the opposite of Ligeia because she has blonde hair and blue eyes. Then, Rowena gets ill, like Ligeia, and dies. Then, the protagonist begins to see paranormal activities with Rowena’s body, and finally, he sees Ligeia again instead of Rowena.
In my opinion, I think that the protagonist gets mad due to the deaths of his two women, and that is why he sees paranormal activities.
A Shocking Confession
To begin with, Winston and his friend called Haldane are the protagonists of this story. They had a partner called Visger at school, who was always saying bad things about them, and they hated him.
One day, Winston and Haldane were together, but Haldane was too weird. They spoke, and Winston thought that Haldane was crazy because Haldane told him that he had killed Visger because Visger got his girlfriend to leave him due to Visger telling bad things about him.
Winston and Haldane went together to forget Visger’s death. They had accommodation in a hotel. Haldane died next to a body because he was crazy, and he had drunk poison. Winston thought that the body next to Haldane was Visger’s, but they didn’t choose the correct room. The body was of Felix Blanc, who was an old man that died because of a heart attack. Visger’s body was found inside of a box thanks to Visger’s testament.
The Mystery of Cabin 105
Brisbane tells a story about a ghost which he experienced some time ago on a ship called “The Kamtschatka”. He was sailing on the sea, and he was living in cabin 105. He shared the cabin with a mystery man who was tall and thin. Brisbane didn’t want to speak with him because he didn’t seem like a nice man.
The next day, Brisbane woke up, and he didn’t see his partner, but he thought that it didn’t matter. His partner had disappeared. Brisbane went to sleep happy because he didn’t have to share the cabin with anybody.
The following night, he was sleeping when he heard some noise, so he woke up, and he saw a ghost on the bed, his partner. This ghost attacked him, and suddenly, the ghost disappeared. From that day, the cabin was empty because it was haunted.
