Refugees, Children, Multilingual Education, Eco-Friendly Products, and Distance Learning: Exploring Key Issues

Refugees. Refugees face many problems. They flee from war and have left their homes behind in order to survive. They have crossed the Mediterranean Sea, starting a dangerous journey in plastic boats. Not everyone survives the trip to the coast, and many children arrive alone and in poor condition. Winter cold is another problem; millions of children are suffering from hypothermia and infections due to poor health after months of malnutrition and lack of medical attention. In the camps, refugees lack access to basic necessities, and many people do not have access to water. These events are awful, and we must raise awareness and try to help because charities do not have enough resources.

Children in Society. Both parents and teachers can help children relate to each other in an appropriate way. They should evaluate the child’s ideas and opinions.

Adults are role models for children, so they will serve as figures of reference. In this way, the relationships of the children will depend on the education they receive from their parents. To avoid violence, we must educate them in respect and consideration for others. We must make them reflect on the consequences of their behavior.

Do not show inappropriate behaviors because the child can go astray.

To avoid drug use, alternative proposals such as sports, music, intellectual, and recreational activities should be made. These activities try to prevent young people from taking drugs because there are no offers or temptations. Programs can also be created to withstand social pressures, developing skills to resist them.

With all these measures, children will be able to integrate adequately into society and prevent them from taking drugs, being violent, and consuming alcohol.

Multilingual Education. Multilingual education means that you study more languages than just your mother tongue.

On the one hand, multilingual education has advantages, one of which is that children can master languages at a fairly high level. They also develop language skills and are able to understand other languages more quickly.

In addition, children who learn multiple languages in childhood have a great advantage in the requirements of jobs, especially those with international projection. They also tend to have advantages in learning other languages in the future.

But on the other hand, multilingual education also has disadvantages. One of these is that children facing a multilingual education run the risk of not reaching a high level in any of the languages. Besides this, these children can be rejected by a part of society because society is mostly monolingual, and this can negatively affect the child’s personality.

In conclusion, multilingual education can be both beneficial and negative, because each child can respond differently.

Eco-Friendly Products. In my opinion, today, eco-friendly products are synonymous with a source of income and state subsidies, apart from that, they serve to clean our conscience of “contaminating.” Sometimes, people also mistakenly equate the concept of kindness with the animal or the land of the field.

But the animals that are loose also eat feed on the days of storms and cold with snowfall.

Moreover, when food leaves the agricultural facility, it is transported in vehicles that run on diesel. We do not know if that company recycles the oils of vehicles and does not harm the environment. Then we know that they reach the markets and restaurants and go to stop at refrigerators that work poorly, consuming more electricity than they should, with poor sanitation. The dish in which they were served is cleaned by a dishwasher that loses water and uses soaps that are not biodegradable. But while we rest our food on our sofa and we see our “plasma” TV with its “chemical powders,” we leave our conscience calm knowing that we have helped the planet for having paid 4 euros for “ecological food.”

Distance Education. It is a way of studying in which students do not necessarily have to attend the classroom.

The great distances that prevent attending school are no longer a problem with this educational modality. Nowadays, the population can access this type of education from where it resides. It is an excellent tool to improve the academic and professional development of the adult population. Distance education allows people to conclude their postponed studies.

Flexibility of schedules facilitates the organization of student time, respecting family life and work obligations. It presupposes low cost. It has a very participative teacher since before opening the course (writing content accompanied by specialists in graphic and pedagogical design) and during the course.

Personalized attention as the tutor accompanies, supervises, and corrects individually.

It is a method that teaches the student to learn. It instructs you in the techniques of self-learning and self-training which, reinforced by information technology, allow for a more complete use in terms of content.

Difficulty of transmitting and preserving certain social values.

The flexibility of schedules is sometimes limited to certain courses that require online participation at specific times or spaces. As there is constant communication between the tutor and the student, distrust is created in aspects such as the learning process and academic evaluation of the student. It contributes to a certain extent to the isolation of the person for which an active intervention of the tutor is necessary. A different academic education than traditional one requires a certain level of adaptation that can be difficult for some people.

In conclusion, today Distance Education is much easier, faster, and simpler thanks to the new information and communication technologies.
