Everyday Use
Your Polar AW200 Activity Watch can be worn on the wrist at all times. It not only tells you the date and time, but also the ambient temperature and atmospheric pressure trend, helping you anticipate any change in the weather.
Measurement of Altitude
The measurement of altitude is based on a simple principle: air pressure decreases as altitude increases.
For the altitude values to be accurate, it is necessary to calibrate the device beforehand.
Calibrating the Altitude
To calibrate the altimeter, check the exact altitude as found on a topographic map of the area. You can also calibrate the barometer. If you opted for this possibility, see “Calibrating the barometer.”
- Access the ALTIBARO mode (Altitude / Barometer). If the mode displayed on the screen is BARO (Barometer), press START several times to Activate the ALTIMETER. If you are already in ALTI mode (Altitude), proceed to Step 2.
- Press START and UP to go to Altitude CALIBRATION, and then press START. The displayed value will begin to flash.
- Enter the correct height (in meters or feet).
- Calibration OK appears for three seconds before the display returns to ALTI mode (Altitude).
During the Activity
Start Logging Activity (REC)
In TIME mode:
- Hold down the START button or
- Press Down to switch to ACTION, and then press START.
Your Polar AW200 Activity Watch begins to record the total time you will be walking. To pause recording, press the STOP button once. Press twice to stop recording.
If you have not yet entered the user settings, the message User Setting MISSING will appear. Follow the instructions on how to enter them and then once you are in ACTION mode, press START to record the activity. If no user adjustments are made or if the settings are incorrect, default settings are used.
During the first 30 seconds of recording, the device detects movement. Accordingly, the zone indicator (animation) should move across the screen. Action data begin to accumulate in the file after one minute of activity.
Data Displayed on Screen (Continued)
ALTI Mode (Altitude = symbol of a mountain)
- The trend graph shows the altitude above sea level change of the path or difference in altitude (press and hold UP to switch views)
- Displays current altitude
Time of day and temperature (hold down the DOWN button to switch views).
BARO Mode (Barometer = symbol of a cloud)
- The trend reflects changes in barometric air pressure.
- Current air pressure at sea level
- Temperature or time of day (hold the DOWN button to switch views)
The ALTI (Altitude) and BARO (Barometer) modes are not active simultaneously. This means that while the trend of altitude is displayed, changes in atmospheric pressure are not being registered (and vice versa).
Viewing the File
During the recording of an activity or when the recording is paused, the screen displays the following cumulative values sequentially if you hold the START button:
- ACTIVE TIME = Time in which you have been really active since tracking began. Compare this to the full activity time to see how much time has been spent moving at an intensity level to improve your fitness. This value excludes the time that has passed while standing or resting. If your watch does not detect any movement for over an hour, recording the activity will stop until you implement it manually.
- ACTIVE STEPS = Instead of counting all the steps, the Polar AW200 Activity Watch counts only steps that form a continuous movement of the entire body. Active steps improve fitness more effectively than steps taken with very low intensity.
- ASCENT = The total vertical elevation gain since recording began.
- DESCENT = The total vertical elevation loss since recording began.
You can stop the sequential presentation of data by pressing UP or DOWN at any time.
Your Polar AW200 Activity Watch is designed to be worn on your wrist. If, for example, you hang it in your backpack, the measurements can be inaccurate or nonexistent.
Altitude Difference
To determine the difference in elevation between two points during a mountain tour, when at the point from which you want to start the measurement:
- Go to ALTI mode (Altitude) and select Altitude DIFFERENCE, press START and select RESET Difference?.
- To reset the timer, press START. To cancel the selection and return to the previous menu, press STOP.
- Once you reach your destination, access ALTI mode (Altitude) and hold the UP button to see the difference in altitude since the last time the counter was set to zero.
Note that starting the activity log resets the measurement of the altitude difference automatically.
Viewing Stored Activity Data
To view the information available in each file, while in the file information display mode, press START and then move through the data with the UP/DOWN buttons.
- Total time hh:mm:ss = Total exercise duration recorded.
- Active time hh:mm:ss = Time spent moving at a sufficient level of intensity.
- Active steps is related to the Active Time data. Active steps accumulate when the activity log is on and you move with a sufficient level of intensity.
- Calories xx kcal = Cumulative calculation of the energy used during the recording of the activity.
- (Ascent) = Increase in accumulated altitude (m or ft) during registration of the activity.
- (Descent) = Decreased cumulative altitude (meters or feet) during the recording of the activity.
- MAX Altitude xx m/ft = The maximum height (in meters or feet) reached during the recording of the activity.
- Activity ZONES Press START to display the vertical bars indicating the time that has been spent in each zone during the recording of the activity.
- Delete File x? = Once deleted, you cannot recover the file.
Adjustments
Clock Settings
To access the settings for Alarm Clock, Time, Date, Sound, Temperature, Units, Auto Alti and Introduction, go to TIME mode, press START and select the WATCH SET menu. Move the UP button and select the setting you want to change.
To return to the previous menu at any time, press STOP. To return to TIME mode, press and hold STOP.
Enable and Disable the Daily Alarm
Access TIME mode and select the menu Watch Set > ALARM hh:mm On/OFF > Alarm SET
