Highbrow Poetry of the Fifteenth Century: Ausias March

Poets created their compositions in Occitan and adhered to strict rules of troubadour poetry.

With Ausias March, fifteenth-century poetry was written in Valencian due to the decline of feudal societal values. The introduction of new ideas into European society in the late fifteenth century was heavily influenced by the Renaissance (valuation of nature and man as an individual, interest in classical culture, etc.). In the fifteenth century, innovative poetry arose, led by Ausias March, and Renaissance lyric, led by Joan Rois de Corella.

Innovative Lyric

Poetry written in Valencian, provides a more realistic view of women with all their flaws and virtues, describes images from everyday life where the bourgeois poet reflects his passions, and signals the final stanza that alludes to the lady.

Renaissance Lyric

A bridge between medieval culture and the new Renaissance era, uses Valencian, poetry is used to relieve the suffering of love that can only end with death, traces the nature of a balanced and harmonious world.
