Contributions

  1. Victor de la Guardia is the author of a play in verse: World Politics. Napoleon is a criticism against the invasion of Spain. The author condemns tyranny and politics. The book is a document of interest because, on one hand, there is talk of a possible theater of Panama and, on the other, it offers a testament to the literary culture of the time.
  2. The introduction of printing brought Goytia and Jose put at the service of independence.

Literary Point of View

Newspapers of 1850

  1. La Estrella de Panama: Dean of the Panamanian press and one of the oldest in America.
  2. The Sentry.
  3. The Zephyr: The first newspaper entirely literary and means of disclosure of the Romantic poets.
  4. Twilight: It replaces the previous one, once it disappears.

Mariano Arosemena

1794-1868, won general knowledge to the extent allowed by books at your fingertips. As a historian, he was the one who wrote the first formal articles of national history. He begins his studies in a written history of the country called: Apuntamientos history. Figure before the first newspaper editors: The Miscellany of the Isthmus.

Justo Arosemena

1817-1896, son of Mariano Arosemena, a leading intellectual, a statesman of great moral and ethical principles. He promoted the creation of the Federal State of Panama when we were part of Colombia. He was the first governor of this state.

Literary Point of View

The most prolific Panamanian of the nineteenth century. Of great importance as an essayist: The Federal Government of Panama, which justifies the need to create a political system for the isthmus, to ensure your development opportunities and progress. So it was called ‘the greatest interpreter of nationality’; he boosted the founding of the first public library in Panama.
