Healthcare Access, Industrial Revolution Impact, and a Joyful Celebration

Healthcare Access and Insurance Coverage

To begin with, doctors must be highly qualified, completing clinical studies in a hospital, including a year of internship and then several years as a resident. Many employers provide health insurance as a benefit to their employees, but not all do. Some smaller employers do not provide insurance because it is expensive. The law requires any employer with 25 or more employees to offer an insurance plan.

Consider a blue-collar worker whose son, Michael, collapses while playing baseball as a result of heart failure. John takes Michael to the hospital, and the doctors explain that Michael’s only hope is a transplant. Unfortunately, John’s insurance doesn’t cover his son’s transplant. The desperate father calls different doctors and other important people, but without money, there is no help.

Industrial Revolution’s Impact on Public Health

Most of us have access to medical care, clean water, and healthy food. But in different parts of the world, there are people who don’t, and we all worry about them. Important organizations like UNESCO work hard to improve their living conditions. But what happened in the past?

The Industrial Revolution started in the late 18th century and was a turning point in the history of humanity. It was a period of dramatic social, economic, and technological changes. Towns grew very quickly. There were factories with new machinery, and they could offer employment, so there were migrations from the countryside to bigger cities. As a consequence, the demand for houses increased rapidly, but the home construction quality was low. In many cities, the result was that large slums appeared. Water was often the problem; factories threw their waste into streams and rivers, and people used that water for washing and cooking. Soon, people’s health was endangered. One of the main killers of the industrial age was cholera, and typhus took many victims. The number of victims was so significant that the authorities soon realized they had a serious problem. They came to the conclusion that a public health system was essential. This is, in fact, the legacy that we can enjoy today.

A Joyful Celebration: Graduation and Engagement

I had a great time yesterday, and I’m very happy, actually. All my family are very happy. I passed my last exam at university; I am a lawyer! When the exam was over, I phoned my parents to tell them the good news. They, in turn, called all my friends, so when I got home, I had a big surprise. All my friends and family were there to congratulate me.

We were all shouting and celebrating when the front doorbell rang. It was my boyfriend, so I told everybody to be quiet; he didn’t know the good news. My friends and family hid in the garden, and I made up my mind to tell my boyfriend a lie. When I opened the door, I said, “I’m so sorry, Frank, I didn’t pass the exam. I must study harder next time.” He didn’t know what to say; he just hugged me tight and said, “Don’t worry, you will pass it next time. You will graduate soon. You shouldn’t be sad.” Just then, my family and friends came into the room, shouting and singing. My boyfriend didn’t understand what was happening; it was so funny! Of course, I told him the truth, and he got very happy.

Well, I had a second surprise. My cousin Mark, who is a professional singer, came with his band. They started playing and singing; it was absolutely unforgettable. I also wanted to surprise my family and friends, so I made an important announcement: “I’m getting married next month!” I shouted. At that moment, everybody started congratulating me again, and my boyfriend too. Of course, to cut a long story short, the party finished at 2 am, and I fell asleep in the living room.

Her boyfriend arrived, and she joked, saying she hadn’t passed the exam while her friends and family kept quiet. Then, they revealed the truth. Josie received a second surprise when her cousin and his band started playing music. She then announced that she would be getting married the following month, and they continued the party while congratulating her. The party ended at 2 am, and she slept in the living room.
