Character Sketches
The Men
He was a tall, fleshy man somewhere in his forties, with pale gold hair and a reddish complexion which the envious put down to drink and the charitable to an excess of sun; his face seemed familiar.
The taller boy was aged about 13 and he was tall and slim. His hair was very dark, almost black in tone, its straight wiry thickness tamed by a stylish cut. He was clean-looking and very pale with brown eyes, black eyebrows, and a cruel, tight mouth. He had a sharp nose, as though it had been specially formed to make a sting at the end of it, and he was so dark that he always looked ill-shaven. His companion looked younger. He was chubby but not overweight.
The Shy Student
One of the students in my class is painfully shy. She always wears an extra-large cotton jacket that envelops her almost completely, and which comes up to her chin; with a shake of the head, most of the rest of her face can be hidden behind her long dark hair, almost black in tone. All this, together with a voice that’s never raised beyond a whisper, makes you wonder sometimes whether she is there at all. She sits with her long legs disposed beneath her and turns her hands as she speaks. She never smiles and when she does not get her own way, she behaves very petulantly which can be irksome to her parent.
However, Lola’s motivation and participation in her English studies are marvelous. She is a bright, pleasant, hard-working student whose attendance, punctuality, and homework are excellent.
Physical Descriptions
Age: She was in her late teens, he in his early twenties.
Build: Plump, corpulent, muscular, athletic, a well-built man, a woman of medium build.
Hair: She’s got copper-colored, hennaed hair that comes down to her waist, and which she often wears tied with a scarf, hanging loosely down her back.
Eyes: He’s got astonishing bright blue eyes and long dark eyelashes, worried eyes.
Face: A long thin face with narrow lips and high cheekbones, a pretty face with small regular features and a pointed chin.
Voice: A squeaky voice.
Character: Jumpy, highly-strung, arrogant, smug, cheerful, sensual, sociable.
My Close Friend, Mari Paz
Everybody has a close friend, like a right arm. In my case, Mari Paz is my right arm. Paz is 18 years old. She lives in Madrid because she studies for a degree there. She wants to be a professional lawyer. Since I met Mari Paz, she has always been quite a polite girl and she was good at talking with people. She is a thoughtful girl because when I feel down, she always tries to cheer me up and she asks me why I am bad-tempered. She is taller than me and she is curvy, but she is not chubby because she is shapely. She is strong too. She has medium-thickness lips and she has an average nose. Her complexion is not dark, her complexion is tanned. She has beautiful emerald eyes and long curly hair. She is hard to satisfy with her crew cut. She is a sociable girl. She wants to be generous with her friends. Also, she is very organized and lively. However, I don’t like when she is angry because she is aggressive and straightforward, but you don’t have to panic, she is a good girl.
My Brother, Luis Alfredo
Although he is a likeable brother, he also has some negative aspects: he is not a person who enjoys sports, he is not sporty, he only likes to ride a bike; for this reason, he bought an American bike whose wheels are 29 inches because he is very tall. Another sport that he likes is swimming; we are lifeguards in summer, we love water! So, he is not an athlete. Moreover, he is very weak to bed; what he likes most is sleeping, so he is a sleepyhead boy and a little lazy… Let us look at some of the pluses or minuses of his physical appearance. Luis Alfredo is the tallest of my family, he is wiry like my mum. He is well-built as a model. As a result, he is quite attractive. He does not like having a beard, although he has a goatee. As he does not practice any sports he has not got a six-pack. Anyway, he is very handsome and charming!
Place Descriptions
My Favorite Beach
People have memories that are sparked by many situations. Every time when I felt upset or sick, I liked to go to a special place where I could relax myself and feel better. Daily, large boats visit its waters and say hello to the green trees that surround it. When the wind blows strongly, you can see the fish trying to reach its bank; nevertheless, they can’t do it because the waters reclaim them like a treasure. I feel good there because I can relax. It’s my favorite place.
When I was a child, I used to go there every afternoon after school. I liked to lay on a big stone, to see the sunset and hear the quiet waves’ sound near me. Then I could imagine all the marine creatures singing from the deep sea. Sometimes, the sun seemed angry, boldly turning red and yellow. Perhaps it didn’t want to leave that amazing place. When the darkness covered the sky, I walked on the bank and looked at the moon reflected on the water. On one occasion I tried to touch it, but I just got my hand full of salt water. I saw the clouds reflected in my hand, and when I breathed, I felt the pure air in my lungs. A sweet flavor filled my whole body.
The sky over this beach is also different from others. A white and bright light crosses it like a ray. The fishermen love this light, but the fish can’t rest quietly because it disturbs their dreams. What’s this light in the middle of the night? It’s the lighthouse light. Wherever you stand, you may see it. It’s the beach’s guardian.
Therefore, when I’m far from this place, I’m sad because I miss it. I miss its clear waters, I miss its white sand, I miss its blue sky, and I miss its wonderful lighthouse. Someday I’ll be there again, and I’ll be able to feel the same things I felt when I was a child.
Beach Vacation Memories
I used to spend my holidays on the beach. It takes approximately one hour from the main city by car to reach it. It would be fun on the way to the beach. We liked to see the traditional houses, green farms, and a river connecting to the sea. A village close to the beach sold fresh seafood. I used to buy some fresh seafood there and then cook them at the beach.
First, I looked for a good place when I arrived at the beach because it would be very crowded on weekends or holidays. I selected a cool place under the trees and extended a mat on the white sand. The wind that blew through the trees softly made the weather cool and pleasant. Peace came into my heart when I looked at the very beautiful long white sand. People played games on the beach. Some of them swam in the shallow sea. There were some kids who tried to make something with the sand, while others tried to break it. Everybody looked happy at that time.
Later, we sailed across the sea to a small island in front of the beach by sloop. I go there to fish because the island was good for fishing. I enjoyed the feeling when a fish ate my fish bait. It was so fun! The fish pulled it and brought it into the sea, and I pulled my fishing rod slowly. It made me feel I had won a game when I got the fish.
It is the best place to spend my time on vacation.
A Place for Reflection
I love to be there for a long time because I can rest softly, and I have a good time there. There you can think about the world, life, family, and the future. There you can hear the loud noise of different wild animals like coyotes and wolves, and you can also see the deer running freely in the forest. I can smell the air, I can feel the temperature of the weather. I can look up through the sky, and I see its own colors like blue and white and how the clouds are moving slowly and expanding.
Rebeico Town
Rebeico Town is a special town because my mother lived her childhood there. This town has many streams to go fishing in, and to go walking along too. Those streams are filled with sweet water. Their water is a clear blue color. The water is a little cold. Those streams are not deep. You can walk above the water and watch the many little fishes swimming. You can feel the softness of the water and its cool temperature through your skin.
Rebeico is a peaceful place. There you can enjoy nature and smell its air among the trees. This smells like trees, flowers, and earth. When the sunset begins, you enjoy it. It is very beautiful; the sunset glows with different colors such as yellow, brown, and red that are mixed in the sky. After that, you can watch in the deep dark night a lot of stars in the sky. There the stars are shining strong and brightly, and they give light to Rebeico town.
Also, this town has a popular dam. This is a beautiful dam. It is deep, its water is cold, and it is filled with sweet water. Its water is a clear green. This place has a lot of fish, so it is a good place to go fishing. This has a lot of trees around it. There you can go camping, barbecue foods, and enjoy nature. Novillo dam is a special place to share a moment with friends and with family, too. There you can hear the loud noise of different wild animals like coyotes and wolves, and you can also see the deer running freely in the forest.
