Complaints and Inquiries: A Collection of Letters

Queja de Unas Vacaciones: I am writing to complain about our recent holiday, which I bought from your website. Please note the following problems: Firstly, we were not very delighted with the hotel, which was not small and traditional as advertised. Secondly, the breakfast and the services of a local guide were not included in the price as promised. Thirdly, there was a mistake in the advert, as the tours were different from the ones mentioned in it, and so I had to organize my own sightseeing trips. Finally, I’m afraid that the vacation has been more expensive than your advert indicated, and so I would like to ask for compensation. I hope to receive a response to my letter in due course. I look forward to hearing from you.

Queja de Una Compra: I am writing to complain about our recent purchase, which I bought an MP3 last week from your website. Firstly, when it arrived, I scrupulously followed your advice, and after a week of practicing, I realized to my disappointment that it sometimes stops. Secondly, your product is not up to my expectations and does not meet my requirements.

I am returning the MP3 to you with this letter. I would be grateful if you could repair the fault. If this is not possible, could you please send me a new one? I hope to receive a response to my letter in due course. I look forward to hearing from you. Yours faithfully.

Pedir Información de Cursos de Verano: I am writing to enquire about English summer courses at your school. I would be grateful if you could send me further details regarding courses in August. I have looked at the website but there isn’t information about this. I would like to know the dates, details about different types of courses, places of the courses, and how much they cost. In addition, I would like to have further information about accommodation with host families. If possible, I would like to stay with my family. I hope to receive a response to my letter. I look forward to hearing from you.

Pedir Trabajo: I am writing to you regarding a job advertisement I saw at my college two days ago. I am really interested in applying for the position of teacher in your summer camp in the UK. I am the right person for the job because I have been working at public and private schools with kids and teenagers of different ages and backgrounds for over 20 years. I have extensive experience in this field. I consider myself a well-trained and highly qualified teacher and I assure you that I am capable of working with large groups of children. In addition to this, I am a talented artist. I can teach the children to play the guitar. It is important for young people to develop their creativity and find their natural talents. I have a great sense of responsibility and genuinely care about children. I also have a lot of patience. I would like to have the opportunity to meet you personally to discuss my qualifications and experience. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Yours faithfully.

Carta al Alcalde por Vivir en Una Zona Mala: I am writing to offer suggestions about the bad conditions of life in the area of …, which are getting worse day after day. Firstly, most people nowadays have much less money in their pockets than they had two years ago, and that is because of the higher taxes we have to pay to the government. Secondly, there are also lots of unemployed people who can’t find jobs anywhere. That means insecurity for local families and the fear of being robbed. Lastly, if the prices continue to rise, people could not buy even the necessary things to survive. In conclusion, I would like to suggest that you take into consideration these grave problems and act accordingly. I hope to receive a response to my letter in due course. Yours faithfully.

Carta de Desarrollo Ambiental: I am writing to inform you about the environmental development project and to describe the positive impact it would have on the people of this community.

Rubbish is the principal problem we have in this town. Landfill areas are currently scarce, which is why the garbage that is collected has to be burnt. I strongly believe this community needs to find a healthier way to treat their household waste. Therefore, I suggest implementing a system that enables the safe disposal of the waste.

It would be infinitely preferable to recycle rubbish rather than burning it. This can be done with plastic, rubber, paper, and metal. It is of vital importance to first educate the population on the importance of taking care of the environment, and then we can start a program at schools to teach children.

Eliminating the smoke in town will lead to a healthier and happier lifestyle for our people. In addition to this, we will contribute to helping the planet by having a much greener town.

Carta de Invitarte al Cine: Dear… How are you? I hope all is well. I haven’t heard from you for three weeks. I’m writing to invite you to go to the cinema with me this weekend. I would like to see “…” It is a drama and it has had very good reviews. It’s the true story of the famous French singer:…. I have heard that the music is beautiful and the acting is brilliant. We could meet in front of Harry’s cinema at four o’clock on Saturday. Would that be convenient for you? Anyway, I hope to hear from you soon. Write soon. Lots of love.

Amigo Que Quiere Ir a Casa de Un Amigo en Verano: Dear Pepe, I have always wanted to visit your country and finally, we are going to be able to go next summer. Elena and I are very excited about it and we want to plan our trip very well. Before we book anything, we’d like to have some advice from you. For example, which month is better for visiting: July, August, or September? We are planning to stay 10 days. Do you have any recommendations regarding hotels or guest houses? We want something clean and well-located, but not too expensive because we want to spend most of our money eating out and on excursions. Another question: Should we rent a car? If so, can you recommend any car rental company? Finally, what kind of clothes should we take? I’m not sure if we should take our raincoats and umbrellas. Thank you very much for your help. Best regards,

Contestación: Hello…, I’m very happy to hear that you are coming to Spain with Elena. Regarding your questions, first let me suggest that you come in September. July and August are extremely hot months, and it’s not always nice to be touring the city. I have checked several online hotels, and I would like to suggest “The Great Maison.” It’s conveniently located in the city center, very close to most museums and landmarks. You don’t need to rent a car unless you want to visit other cities, and you don’t want to book an excursion by bus. If you insist on having a car, I recommend “Carfleet,” which friends told me is inexpensive and reliable. Finally, please take light clothes and a jacket. You don’t need raincoats or umbrellas because it hardly rains. If you have more questions, please let me know. I’ll be happy to answer them. Looking forward to seeing you next summer.

Los Adolescentes Son Diferentes: Many teenagers have access to the internet and therefore they have a chance to watch free videos and films online. As it is a passive activity, it is very likely that they spend much more time watching videos than reading. While watching an online film or videos is not a bad activity per se, doing it all the time is. This is precisely what teachers and parents fear: teenagers becoming just passive consumers of any junk videos or worthless information that is presented online. They point out that good habits such as reading and acquiring useful information for their future jobs are being lost. However, if parents at home supervise their screen hours, it is perfectly possible to keep a balance between watching online films and videos and reading. Furthermore, there are many books that teenagers love, such as those related to witchcraft and vampires. So the problem is not necessarily reading, but what to read. In my opinion, therefore, teenagers can watch videos or films online and continue to have the habit of reading if they have the discipline to organize their time well, and their parents make sure that they do not exceed a limited number of hours in front of the computer.

Jóvenes Menos Saludables Que Antes:
Nowadays, young people are prone to be less healthy than they were twenty years ago and also to suffer from a lot of illnesses. These problems are mainly caused by the busy way of life we live.

Twenty years ago, young people were healthier since, although they did not look after their health consciously, they did it by eating food without additives, because they lived more quietly, they spent much time in touch with nature, and despite not doing sports, they did more physical activities by working than young people do now.

In contrast, nowadays a lot of people give more importance to their appearance rather than to their health. Added to this, most of the time they eat fast food, and also some of them are not fond of practicing sports, so they lead a sedentary life. All of these problems make them unfit and unhealthy.

To conclude, young people today can look after their health since there are a lot of medical treatments for curing and preventing illnesses as well as more information available than years ago. However, the responsibilities, stress, and lack of time lead us to leave aside the care of our health.

Learning English Mejor en el Extranjero Que en el País:

Learning English abroad, especially in the UK, has a great advantage as you have to speak the language all the time, whether during classes or in daily activities such as shopping, asking for directions, and watching TV. It will certainly improve my accent and make me used to think in English – not in my native language. Not everyone can afford studying English abroad as it is very expensive. On the other hand, some people cannot get along with a different culture and suffer from homesickness.

Learning English in my own country has its pros and cons. Being with students speaking the same language and having the same problems makes studying fun, and sometimes competition urges students to work harder. At the same time, using the native language in class limits the ability to speak English fluently.

Taking into consideration the high expenses of learning abroad, I prefer to study in my own country and make efforts to improve my English by making friendships with English native speakers who live or visit my country.

Article: Sevilla… Do you want to know one of the best places in Spain? The most beautiful festival in Spain is April’s fair. Come to Sevilla, where you can find one of the most amazing cities in the world. You can easily access either by car or public transport. There are several reasons why this place will surprise you once you get there. First of all, you’ll be delighted by the spectacular views from the top of the cathedral tower. Crystal clear lukewarm waters, where you can safely swim or dive and be surrounded by colorful fish. Furthermore, a lot of people in Spain say that “Sevilla is art.” And this is not only for the cathedral, all the churches, the Spain’s square, or the museums. It’s said due to the people and the places, they feel their lives. One of the times you could see this is in April, and particularly in the April’s fair. For seven days, people spend hours and hours at that fair, talking, laughing, eating, and of course singing and dancing. And finally, if you are hungry or thirsty, you could sit on a terrace contemplating the impressive views while having a cool beer or a delicious hamburger. What are you waiting for? Come to….. In my opinion, one of the nicest… in Europe, where you can enjoy the nice weather, the great views of the.., and the lovely food and drinks.

Caza: In the early morning, hunters set off with their guides for one of the most exciting hunts of a lifetime. One of the special pleasures of this hunt is the opportunity to watch deer and foxes as they wake up and start roaming around. Sonseca gives you a unique opportunity to shoot deer, the dream of every real sportsman.

Report: The aim of this report is to analyze the problems/values when you have to…. The following items should be taken into account: ///In light of the above, if you… (Conclusion)

Story: It all began when I was younger. I was an ordinary person who always did everything that was expected of me. Consequently, I studied law, like my father had studied before. My family wanted me to work in my family’s law office, the best in the city. I was young, rich, handsome, and I had a brilliant future as a lawyer. Some time later, I went on holiday to Mexico. There, I met Elena, an intelligent law student. She told me about the hard situation that ethnic minorities and political refugees were living in her country. Suddenly, I decided that I didn’t want my comfortable life anymore. I wanted to stay with her and I wanted to help people as a lawyer. If I hadn’t visited Mexico, I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet the woman of my life. If I had returned to Spain, I would have had a lot of money and I would have been working for 20 hours a day. But now I’m really happy with my lifestyle because I help people and I have enough time for me and my family. If I hadn’t been in exactly the right place at exactly the right time, I wouldn’t have had this wonderful opportunity.

Comportamiento Ciudad-Pueblo: Thousands of euros are wasted on cleaning public spaces by the public administration. When I walk around, I see a lot of rubbish on the streets, even beside bins. In a village, there aren’t important cleaning services, but people feel the streets are their own place, so they keep them clean. Dirt is not caused by inadequate cleaning services; cities are dirty due to the unfriendly behavior of citizens.

Another problem is the attitude of individualism. In the city, nobody knows each other because they prefer not to worry about anyone apart from themselves. People in villages are more supportive. Helping each other is not an obligation; it is a way of life. If people in the city were more caring, there would be fewer problems, I’m sure of that. In my opinion, it could be a good idea to show on your website some problems and different alternatives in city life. Then, it could be possible to improve city life like all of us desire.

Report: The purpose of this report is to present the findings of a small survey into how people in our class would spend a large lottery win. Most of the class said that they would share at least some of the money with their friends and family. However, fewer people said that they would give much of the money away to charity. In fact, just one person was willing to do this. The next most popular choice was to buy a house. Nearly everyone we spoke to would invest their money in property. In addition, several people said that they would buy a boat or a car. On the other hand, some people would prefer to spend their money on a luxury holiday or a trip around the world. Relatively few people decided that they would save the money. Nevertheless, a few people claimed they would use some money to pay off existing debts. In conclusion, it appears that most people would choose to share some money with family and friends. However, our survey also showed that they would spend most of it on themselves.
