Bruce Lee’s Enduring Legacy: Martial Arts, Philosophy, and Impact
Introduction: My Oral Presentation on Bruce Lee
Hello teacher, how are you doing? I’m Juan, your student, and I’m now going to deliver my oral presentation about Bruce Lee. I’ve made many attempts before this, but I believe this one will be successful. First of all, I want to tell you what I did today before this moment.
This morning, I woke up at 10:00 AM and immediately got dressed. Then, I had my breakfast: a healthy toast with oil and salt. After that, I did what all students do at this time — my homework. I almost forgot that before all of that, I brushed my teeth, which is very important! When I finished all the homework I wanted to do this morning, I thought it was time for a little rest, so I decided to play a video game. Finally, I took the dog out, and then I had my totally handmade hamburger for lunch. Currently, I’m here, delivering this oral presentation.
Why I Chose Bruce Lee
Returning to what’s important: Why did I choose Bruce Lee? I chose him because he is a reference for me, an example for this life. He embodies discipline and philosophy. Personally, I prefer Bruce Lee’s movies over other action films, like those from the Marvel Universe. Beyond cinema, he introduced me to his philosophy and the Tao, an interesting way of thinking that taught me many thoughts and proverbs from ancient Chinese culture. I have the book here, the Tao Te Ching; I don’t know if you know it, but I highly recommend it to you. It’s very useful!
The Life and Career of Bruce Lee
Early Life and Professional Journey
Bruce Lee was born in 1940 in California, United States. He was an actor and a film director of Chinese cinema, a martial artist who created a new martial art, Jeet Kune Do, and a philosopher following the way of the Tao. His films reached audiences worldwide and significantly boosted oriental cinema, ushering in a new era. Before Bruce, Chinese cinema was often closely tied to theater, but with him, it became more realistic and dynamic.
Martial Arts Training and Family Life
Bruce Lee’s love for martial arts began when he was a child, as he started training and learning early. A curious fact is that one of his masters was Ip Man, a famous martial artist himself. Bruce became a famous actor, notably appearing in the first Batman TV show, making him one of the few Chinese actors in American cinema at the time. Bruce was also a father to two children, Brandon Lee and Shannon Lee. Brandon became a model and actor, while Shannon currently runs the Bruce Lee Companies and preserves the legacy of her brother and father. Bruce’s wife was Linda Lee Cadwell. Bruce Lee’s life was fantastic, but unfortunately, he died at the age of 32 from a cerebral edema.
Filmmaking Success and Innovation
Bruce Lee started making highly successful martial arts films worldwide. This success wasn’t due to marketing; it was due to the innovation and creativity of his martial arts choreography. Bruce never won an Oscar, but he won the love of his fans—people who even respect his philosophy. Bruce wrote several books about philosophy and his training routines; his diaries are available online for free.
Bruce Lee’s Enduring Legacy
Bruce Lee remains an inspiration for artists and people everywhere, offering an example of discipline and showing that with effort, anything is possible. His most popular quote, “Be water, my friend,” is a profound reference for me and for countless people around the world.
