Accentuation of Catalan Verb Forms

Acute

Accentuate verb forms ending in -e, -y, -u, -as, -is, -os, -us, -in, and -en, and not other forms (including those ending in diphthong).

There is a tense with all forms of acute future: some are accented and others are not, depending on the termination.

  • Ballas / shall dance / dance / Balls / Ball1/ dance

In other tenses, only part of the forms are acute: each form is accented or not according to the termination.

Examples:

  • Past simple (acute form): Balls / Ball.
  • Imperfect subjunctive (acute form): dances.

Forms that are not personal, unless some exceptions, are acute. Do not accentuate infinitives (ending in -r), gerunds (in-nt), or most participles (ending in-t in masculine singular). But bear in mind the participles ending in-s that are accented. Examples: Rome, offended, confused, confined, etc..

Flat

Accentuate tense plains that end in-a,-e, y-or-u-as,-is,-is,-os,-us, in-and-in (including those ending in diphthong) are accented and other forms.

There are two tenses · all forms flat limperfet dindicatiu and conditional: some are accented and others are not, depending on the termination.

  • Imperfect dindicatiu: Balls / Ball / Ball / ballàvem / ballàveu2/ dancing

In other tenses, only part of the forms are flat: each way or not according saccentua termination. Examples:

  • Past simple (flat shapes): Balls / Ball / Ball2/ dancing.
  • Imperfect subjunctive (flat shapes): Dance / balléssim / balléssiu2 / dancing.

Although most acute forms are not personal, there are some plans for the second conjugation infinitives or ending in irregular-r that are accented. Examples: fear, overcome, run, twist, being, etc..

Esdrúixoles

Few tense esdrúixoles exist that are accented: know, know, know, fit, fit, fit.

Examples

  1. Write the imperfect dindicatiu verb wash and serve. Indicate in what ways they are accented and explain why.
  2. Compare the limperfet dindicatiu forms of the verb to sleep with their equivalent in Catalan Castilian. Why in our language is Spanish and only two naccentuen all six? Why LACC in Catalan only indicates the tone of síllaba, while also indicating the Spanish diphthong break dunk.

This issue affects only tense sharp and flat, as NIH has not desdrúixoles. In most cases, the casing is damaged and only the escadusserament or. Sapliquen the rules in these cases are as follows.

In acute

· LACC graph of e is usually acute:

  • – 1st person singular future: I will, sing, will serve
  • – 1st person singular past simple: was, he said, issues …
  • – 1st and 3rd person singular subjunctive limperfet: any, sing
  • – 3rd person singular present dindicatiu and 2nd person singular
    limperatiu in-ten-and CEN (believes, intends, lights).

· But there is also an acute case of verbal forms in which the LACC and is serious:

– 3rd person singular present dindicatiu and 2nd person singular
limperatiu in-in (offends, understand, learn …).

In flat

· The situation is more balanced. LACC graph of e (and or) may be acute:

  • – Some infinitives and arising from: being, born, Fear squeezing grow, run
  • – 1st and 2nd person plural past simple: had, themes, said, we were,
    you were
  • – 1st and 2nd person plural subjunctive of limperfet:’d, perdéssim, do,

  • – 1st and 2nd person plural of the verb limperfet dindicatiu being: we were, you were

· However, are abundant cases of tense plains where the LACC and (and or) is serious:

  • – Some infinitives and arising from: to know, beat, push, twist
  • – 1st and 2nd person plural of limperfet dindicatiu: thought, you said, sit, you did
  • – Participate as irregular type, admission, offended on, understood, driven.

IN accents tense

· Are several forms of the verb be with accents: am, is, and it would be.

· There are other verbal forms that have accents:


– Does not give: woman, women.
– And does not have that result: he made (3rd-person singular simple past).
– Does not have: tea.
– Does not come: come, come.
– Does not go: to go.
