Reality TV shows are good entertainment

Reality shows are a very popular form of entertainment on TV nowadays. There are dozens of differenttypes of programs such as singing contests, cooking competitions or going to live in the jungle.
Firstly, I think People at home can choose which types ofprogram they want to watch depending on what they are interested in. Some people like watchingsinging or cooking competitions while others prefer watching programs about building houses or traveling
around the world. In addition, reality TV programs are a great opportunity to discover talented singers, dancers or chefs. Several people who take part in these programs get jobs as a result of being on TV.
On the other hand, some people think that reality TV is an easy way for them to become famous. However, most successful singers, actors or chefs have worked hard all their lives and are good at their job because of their hard work. Also, sometimes the people on the shows have to do really difficult ordangerous things. The competitions are very hard and there is only one winner. Another disadvantage isthat some programs always follow the same format and this can be boring to watch.
To sum up, I think that reality TV is good entertainment. There is lots of variety which means there issomething for everyone and they are interesting to watch.

A short story

It was Katia’s 20th birthday and she was looking forward to seeing her friends. There were meeting at Mamma Mia’s, her favourite Italian restaurant, for a special birthday dinner. Katia was excited and got to the restaurant at exactly 7 o’clock, the time they had arranged to meet. She looked around for a familiar face, but no one had arrived yet. So she decided to wait outside and stood patiently in the warm evening sunshine.

The restaurant quickly filled up with customers, but none of them were Katia’s friends. ”Where are they?” she thought. At half pat seven she was still waiting, so she called her best friend Isa. “Why doesn’t she answer her phone?” Katia asked herself. Then she called Jonty, Alex and Yoko, but they didn’t answer either. “What’s going on?” she wondered.

At 8 o’clock Katia went home. Her friends had forgotten her birthday and she felt lonely and miserable. She opened the front door and walked into the dark house. The living room door was closed. “How strange”, she thought because she always left it open. Nervously, she opened the door. Suddenly the lights went on and all her friends jumped up and shouted “Surprise!” so they hadn’t forgotten and in the end it was the best birthday ever.

Descriptive essay on a place

Everyone has some imaginary place where he or she hides from the real-world troubles and worries. I find this practice extremely helpful for my emotional well-being. One of the exercises I  typically perform is going to my imaginary place where I feel calm, relaxed, and comfortable and where I can get rid of negative emotions and obtrusive thoughts.

I have enjoyed nature since my childhood, so my imaginary place is the wildlife located far away from cities and people. My imaginary place has much fresh air that is filled with rich smells of wood and flowers. This place is good to visit when I feel stressed and need to escape negative emotions and thoughts that bother me.

Finally, there is a location in my imaginary place that I visit only on special occasions. Sometimes, I need to step out of my comfort zone and try something challenging. This place is both spectacular and dangerous at the same time.

To summarize, my imaginary place reflects the diversity of wildlife and my emotional experience. It is a place where a man can live in harmony with nature and where the setting can be an inseparable part of self.

SKYFALL

Skyfall is one of the best action films in recent years. Released in 2012, it stars Daniel Craig as secret agent James Bond and Spanish actor Javier Bardem in the role of Raoul Silva, the villain in this film.

The plot involves a genius computer hacker who is an ex-spy. He wants to take revenge on the organisation he used to work for and James Bond has to prevent this from happening. There are a lot of exciting action scenes as Bond pursues him around the world. Can he stop him before its too late?

The film is set in a variety of locations including Istanbul, Shanghai, Macaw, London and Scotland, which gives it a very international atmosphere. The soundtrack is impressive and includes the theme song “Skyfall”, performed by English singer Adele. The acting is also of a very high standard and Bardem brings his character to life with a dazzling and memorable performance.

I would highly recommend Skyfall, especially if you are keen on action films. It will have you on the edge of your seat until the very end and I am sure you will not regret watching it.

The advantages and disadvantages of prison

There is not doubt that crime is a problem today, but is prison the right answer? Wealth, education and healthcare are increasingly available to everyone in modern society, yet crime and violence are also on the increase. Despite this, I don’t believe that prison is an effective response to the problem.

It is true that many types of crime are so serious that society needs to be protected from the criminals involved. For example, people who commit murder or use physical violence are not safe and must be removed from the streets. Furthermore, there are some criminals who have become habitual offenders and the only way to stop their behavior is to put them in prison.

However, there are many reasons against sending all criminals to prison. Firstly, prisons are often barbaric places which make the people who go there worse. Secondly, many minor criminals who go to prison learn how to commit crimes better, and re-offend when they come out. In addition, prison is a very expensive way to deal with these people. Finally, the justice system can make mistakes and some people who go to prison are innocent.

In conclusion, prison is a necessary option for the justice system when dealing with violent criminals or habitual offenders, but it shouldn’t be used for everyone.

Are computer games bad for children?

Video games sales, which are rising faster faster than ever, are now higher than book sales among children of 8 to 16 years of age. Worried about the educational implications of this, many people think the government should do something about to encourage young people to read more and play less.

I am against the idea that computer games are bad because they have no educational value.

I strongly believe that people who say this kind of thing don’t know very much about what many computer games can offer.

Imagining that games offer no more than pure entertainment, some adults condemn them without really knowing what they are really talking about. The kinds of games these critics have in mind are the violent, shooting and killing types. However, if these people played Sims or Civilization, which are the kind of game where players have to think strategically and plan what they are going to do next, they would realise how much they’ve got to teach everyone. Playing the games, they would also discover the amount of reading and numbers that are involved.

In conclusion, I disagree with people who criticise all computer games but I am in favour of young people playing a healthy variety of games. Choosing to play games that teach you how to build towns or theme parks is great fun, an educational too.

An essay about leisure time and academic pressure

Nowadays, many teenagers around the world have to spend most of their time studying in order to get top grades, a university place and a good job. For this reason, there is often little left for hobbies or socialising.

One of the main causes is exams. These are stressful experiences and most students take a huge number of them during their school career. That is why some schools are considering alternative types of assessment, such as projects or coursework. Not only are these more enjoyable and less stressful, they also de-emphasise memorization and allow students to demonstrate other skills, including creativity, independent learning and teamwork.

Another reason could be the demanding schedule that youngster have nowadays. After a long day at school, students usually have several more hours of homework to do or extra classes in the evening, which makes them constantly exhausted. In addition, studying while you are exhausted is unproductive. To tackle this problem, students should plan regular breaks and, ideally, take exercise outdoors. This will make you work faster and concentrate for longer.

To sum up, this problem is serious and widespread. The number of exams is one cause, and students´ busy schedules are another. Therefore, both schools and students ought to take action to recommend the situation.

 Exam question

Nowadays, more people are affected by health issues  mass-produced food. Some people believe the only solution is to make fast food less affordable by taxing it highly. Despite the severity of the problem, I think this is quite wrong. Increasing the tax on fast food would unfairly penalize people and may not necessarily bring about the desired health benefits.

First, fast food is about more than just nutrition. Many teenagers spend money on fast food not because they need to eat out but because this is how they socialise. Fast-food restaurants provide a safe, convenient place for young people to meet friends. Denying people a small pleasure in life could affect their social lives or happiness.

Another important point is that if the reason for taxing fast food is to reduce obesity it may be ineffective. It is true that fast food is high in sugar, salt and fat, all of which cause weight gain and are detrimental to our health.

However, we also know that there are other factors which contribute to the risk of obesity, such as lack of exercise and inappropriate portion size. While home-cooked food is generally healthy, this is not always the case.

On the other hand, I do understand the point of view of those who say drastic action is needed. If fast food were taxed and became expensive, people would be forced to seek out healthier options. To conclude, although imposing a higher tax on fast food could have some positive effects, these would be outweighed by the drawbacks. What we really need is greater awareness of diet and cheaper healthy food.
